MTT@NMC: Hello In There!
May 24, 2012
Hi everyone! My name is Barnaby & I am one of the co-founders of local music promotion company & blog Music Times Two (MTT). I'm also a big fan & supporter of the National Music Centre, so when they asked me to start writing for their blog I was thrilled to get involved!
The museum collection is one of Calgary's true gems, not to mention one of the foremost piano/keyboard galleries in the world. From the ARP 2500, to the Day-Glo Merry Pranksters Buchla Box that was on the original Further bus, to the 16th century Trasuntino Harpsichord - NMC is full of amazing keyed instruments, the likes of which one would never imagine they'd have the chance to play, let alone all in the same place! If you haven't had a chance to check out the collection in person, I'd recommend checking it out ASAP!
As a part of this blog series we are going to start featuring a different instrument from the collection in a post each month. We are hoping to bring some cool musicians to the museum & film them playing on their favourite synth for this series. Stay tuned for that, its going to be fun!
The synth series is only one of the many things we've got going on with MTT at the moment. We curated the recent MTT Fest in late March with Sonic Boom, Dean & Britta, Damo Suzuki, Sun Araw, Julia Holter and many more! We have a few more shows in the works, including MTT events at Sled Island & the Stampede that we will be announcing very very soon! In the meantime, please come check out MTT's next show at Broken City on May 31st with Man Legs, Taiwan, Seahorse & myself...more information can be found here.
Thanks for reading everyone and stay tuned for all sorts of new content from MTT@NMC!
