2018 RBC Master in Residence program participants announced!

May 10, 2018

Neo-folk artist Skye Wallace is among the six acts selected to participate in the 2018 RBC Master in Residence program.

The National Music Centre (NMC) is pleased to announce the participants of the 2018 RBC Master in Residence program with Steven Page, one of Canada’s most celebrated singer-songwriters.

The six emerging Canadian acts selected to be mentored by Page are Edmonton jazz-pop vocalist Abøn, St. John’s singer-songwriter Kellie Loder, Burlington, Ontario indie-rock band Oh Geronimo (represented by lead songwriter Ciarán Downes) Whitehorse rockers Speed Control (represented by lead songwriter Graeme Peters), Toronto neo-folk artist Skye Wallace, and Toronto electro-R&B act Erez Zobary.

Through the generous support of the RBC Foundation, these emerging songwriters will have the opportunity to workshop with Page, refine their work, and learn about the craft of composition and lyric writing. The result of that work will be presented as part of a Songwriters’ Circle, followed by a live oral history and short performance by Page. Limited tickets are still available for that event here.

The RBC Master in Residence program invites emerging artists to work under the leadership of a Master in Residence chosen to inspire creativity, encourage innovation, share expertise and provide mentorship. Canadian techno ambassador, Richie Hawtin, participated in the 2017 program and Our Lady Peace founder, Raine Maida, led NMC’s Master in Residence program in 2016. Internationally acclaimed artist and producer, Daniel Lanois led NMC’s first ever Master in Residence event in 2015 with an interactive master session in collaboration with Sled Island Music and Arts Festival.
