What are the curriculum connections?
Our hands-on programs are based on the Alberta Education Program of Studies and encourage critical thinking and inquiry-based learning about music, sound, science, culture, history and the creative process. All programs are led by exceptional musician educators who make the concepts come to life and feature items form our rare and unique collection!

For details on what you will do in each program and its curricular links, download your Teacher’s Guide, specific to each program.

Studio Bell does not have a public parking lot, or bus parking area. There are paid parking lots in the nearby area, but most would not accommodate bus parking. Your school should arrange pickup and drop off with your bus without parking availability.

Help me fill out all that paperwork!
The National Music Centre meets service-provider requirements for all school boards, including first-aid training and vulnerable sector police security checks.

NMC has a Masters Agreement with the Calgary Board of Education, which means we have been pre-approved and you get to fill out less paperwork! CBE teachers can download the CBE Masters Agreement service request form here and/or refer to the CBE website for more information about working with a Masters Agreement provider.

Please contact Stephanie Wong Ken, Education and Public Programs Coordinator, with any questions related to your visit.

Are programs offered in French?
NMC has some educators who are bilingual and French programs are dependent on their availability. Please indicate your wish for a French program on your online registration form, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

What time should we arrive?
Prior to your programs your group will be taken to remove jackets, drop off backpacks and get an orientation to Studio Bell. Since all of this will take some time, we recommend you arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to the start time of your program, unless otherwise specified at the time of booking.

What should we bring with us?
We recommend that you and your students bring along a bagged lunch for your trip; Rosso Coffee Roasters (found within Studio Bell) does sell food and beverages, but for the sake of time and convenience it would be better to bring your own food. We also recommend wearing good walking shoes and bringing a water bottle. Otherwise the most important thing is to bring your imaginations!

Can we visit Studio Bell without participating in a program?
Absolutely! As an individual or with your family you can drop by anytime we are open to the public, Wednesday-Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you are wanting to bring a school group to visit, you are not required to sign up for a guided visit, but keep in mind this is a far more affordable option than paying individual admission for each of your students.

How many adult supervisors should attend?
We require that your school bring along enough adults to obtain a 1:5 ratio with your students. This will ensure the safety and comfort of all involved! Adults to children should not exceed a ratio of 1:4 to ensure enough space in classrooms and other spaces.

How can we prepare for our visit?
Download your Getting Ready document for details on behaviour expectations and an overview of our galleries stages. This package will help you to prepare for your day, including answering questions on your field trip forms. For Roadcase bookings, download your “Getting Ready for the Roadcase” Guide here.
