The National Music Centre (NMC) is thrilled to offer a magical musical history tour of a lifetime with the launch of its Backstage Pass Tours at Studio Bell on Sunday, February 4.

This guided tour of Studio Bell’s artist spaces will provide a behind-the-scenes look at three world-class recording facilities that house historic consoles—including the Olympic Studios console, Trident A-Range console, and the legendary Rolling Stones Mobile Studio—and a collection of musical instruments that spans 450 years of music innovation and technology. Tickets for Backstage Pass Tours go on sale on Wednesday, January 31 at 10:00 am here.

Visitors will catch a glimpse at the working spaces where artists make magic happen, and hear the stories behind notable artifacts as a trained musician offers a demonstration. They’ll gain insight into some of NMC’s most treasured items—from the earliest instruments in the NMC Collection, such as a 16th century Trasuntino Harpsichord; to modern electronics, like TONTO, considered to be the ‘holy grail’ of synthesizers; to the extremely rare Hammond Novachord (only six functioning Novachords remain in the world!) on which celebrated Canadian folk singer-songwriter Basia Bulat recorded her last album, Good Advice; to the largest item in the NMC Collection, the King Eddy.

Interpreter Nathaniel Schmidt offers musical demos on a few rarities from NMC’s collection.

“Fans of our previous tours at the old Cantos building are going to love this updated version,” said Andrew Mosker, President and CEO at the National Music Centre. “We’re excited to offer not only more accessibility of our artist spaces to the public in 2018, but also share more of our unique collection. The National Music Centre is much more than a museum. We are a hybrid music organization that programs in multiple streams—exhibitions, performance, education and artist incubation. Our Backstage Pass Tours will offer more insight into how our programs work together, as well as how our “living collection” is contributing to new music in Canada.”

Tickets for Backstage Pass Tours go on sale on Wednesday, January 31 at 10:00 am. Tickets cost $33 for adults, $29 for students/seniors, $26 for youth (3-12 years of age) and include a Backstage Pass Tour and access to regular exhibitions at Studio Bell. Tickets for NMC Members are only $12, so purchase your membership online today! Details here.

These tours will be available on Sundays only at noon and 1:30 pm. Space is limited, so book your tickets in advance here to avoid disappointment. Kindly note that strollers are not permitted on this tour. This tour is recommended for those aged 12 and up.
