Name: Simon Larochette

Occupation: Recording Engineer

Location: London, Ontario

First Job: Dishwasher

Best Job: Intern at the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology

Greatest Professional Challenge: Taking a day off.

So, how did you get this awesome gig anyways? I started recording bands out of any empty room available at a venue called the London Music Club here in London. Recently I was offered some more comfortable space where a studio had already been for 10+ years and so The Sugar Shack was born!

What do you like best about your job? I'm able to help musicians realize their vision and then turn their wild ideas into a tangible object. It sounds so simple when I put it that way…

Any special skills required? Patience and the ability to sit still.

Favourite experience on the job: Recording a Yamaha C7 grand piano.

Advice for people who want your awesome gig: An engineer's definition of “quality” is not always the same as the musician's.

Favourite CDN Music Venue: To play – Aeolian Hall in London. To Watch – the Opera House in Toronto.

Favourite Record of the Moment: Hank Snow – “I've Been Everywhere”
